3 Easily Forgotten Things on Moving Day

Crocker Moving, your Birmingham house movers, know that moving is a busy and stressful time. You have a hundred things going on at once and remembering to take care of utilities and school registration on top of packing and moving, can be overwhelming. Let Crocker Moving handle the loading and unloading and you focus on these things that most people forget on moving day.

Don’t pack important documents or everyday items
Once you start packing, it’s hard to stop, but don’t pack up your important documents like birth certificates, social security cards, checks, contracts, etc. just in case something unexpected happens and you need to reference those documents. You don’t want to have to unpack your boxes to get to your checks when you need one, or worse, have them packed in the truck already! Items you use every day like sunglasses, toothbrushes, and even pajamas, you should keep on you in a travel bag for your move, so that they’re easily accessible after what might be an exhausting day. Don’t forget to include your phone charger! The last thing you want is to search through box after box looking for a phone charger that night.
You don’t have to worry about your valuables, jewelry, or antiques with Crocker Moving. Our movers have extensive background checks and drug testing, so you can trust us. However, you may still want to keep jewelry items with you if you have the tendency to misplace smaller items.

Cancel and Set Up Utilities
We are your go-to for Birmingham moving services and packing services, but we aren’t the ones who contact your utility companies to make sure the lights are on when we all arrive to your new home. Nothing is worse than getting to your new place and having no electricity or running water. It’s also important to call and have those services turned off or taken out of your name at your old place so that you don’t have to pay for both bills. Make sure you set up your new utilities like electricity, water, cable, and internet to get set up the day you move in, so you don’t have to wait to get your new home set up. And remember to call your current utility providers and give them your move date so they can cut off your service and stop billing you!

Change your address on your credit cards, memberships, and with the Post Office

You don’t want to miss important information because it is going to your old address, especially around tax season. Make sure you take a couple hours prior to moving to change your address with the post office so they can forward all mail to your new address. You can do this online or at your local post office. Call your credit card company and other companies who use your mailing address and ensure they have the updated info. Many of these companies will likely let you update them online too. And maybe, just maybe, the junk mail will take a little longer to find you.

We hope these were helpful reminders! Check out our Moving Tips tab for more tips and information. Our Birmingham moving services team at Crocker Moving is excited to welcome you to your new home!
